Private LLMs: Self-Hosting Ollama to Prevent Prompt Telemetry Leakage
The Context: "The 3 AM Trigger"
We wanted to integrate code assistant models, but sending proprietary repository fragments to public APIs violated developer privacy contracts. We deployed high-performance local inference engines.
The Problem Statement
Serve large language model (LLM) prompts locally with low latency without transmitting context to external clouds.
Visual Architecture: The Flow
The Core Logic / Process
High-Performance Local Inference
- Model Cache: Base models are downloaded once, verified with checksums, and stored in a private directory.
- No Egress routing: Disable all analytics reporting flags inside Ollama environment variables.
- Resource Isolation: Binding model threads strictly to local compute clusters.
The "Baigan" Take (Expert Insights)
Sending your source code to external servers for suggestions is a baigan-level data leak. Run Ollama locally, keep the prompts on your own machine, and secure your intellectual property.
