Sovereign DDNS: Writing Custom Scripts to Avoid Public Telemetry Providers
The Context: "The 3 AM Trigger"
Commercial dynamic DNS clients sent telemetry along with home IP address changes. We wrote a custom sovereign DDNS loop to update our records securely.
The Problem Statement
Update public DNS records automatically when your home WAN IP changes without using commercial trackers.
Visual Architecture: The Flow
The Core Logic / Process
Sovereign DNS Dynamic Update
- Lightweight Script: Runs as a cron job on your local server.
- Direct Updates: Communicates directly with your DNS provider's API.
- Secure Tokens: Uses limited-scope API tokens instead of master account credentials.
The "Baigan" Take (Expert Insights)
Using public DDNS clients that track your device uptime is a baigan-level idea. Write a simple cron loop, use direct DNS APIs, and update your records cleanly.
Performance & Implementation Checklist
